How would you address a wide range of skills and abilities in your classroom?

Throughout my college career, I have learned and seen first hand that all students possess a wide range of skills and abilities. Addressing each of these needs is no easy task, but I am a strong believer that every student possesses the ability to learn and it is my job as an educator to teach to the best of their ability. While receiving my bachelor’s degree, I also took the time to obtain a minor in special education with the sole focus of learning how to better differentiate my lessons for students to increase their educational success. In mathematics education, there are three levels a new idea should be taught in: concrete, abstract, and representational. Students in my classroom will follow this model and move to the next level once they have demonstrated mastery of the previous. Another way I plan to differentiate my instruction is by using a combination of individual, small group, and large group instruction. Likewise, I will work to build rapport with my students and incorporate their individual interests into the classroom learning activities. I believe that by doing so, I will be encouraging the engagement of my students to create life-long learning expectations and abilities.

Below are samples of student work and activities I created.
