Process

***Groups will be assigned at random***

Each group will have a

Designer

In charge of drawing the on-paper draft of the classroom. They will then convert this drawing to the online program.

Researcher

In charge of conducting research to find the cost of materials.

Writer

This person will record all information from the designer, such as measurements, and the researcher, such as cost. This information will then be given to the Presentation Maker

Presentation Maker

In charger of creating the powerpoint presentation.

***All members are expected to show their mathematical work and present the project ***

Part One

This is the main job of the designer, but all members of the group should help. The dimensions of the classroom are 30ft by 50ft. First draw The perimeter of the classroom and find the area. Then you as a group need to find an arrangement to include the following shapes into the classroom. These shapes all represent different types of furniture, such as tables, desks, and chairs.

Square

Triangle

Rectangle

Trapezoid

Circle

A minimum of one of each shape should be included in the space. The more you are able to fit the better your grade will be. Be sure to include all measurements of the shapes sides or radii.

Part Two

We will be using sketchup.google.com. First watch the introductory tutorial videos.

After your group has watched at least one tutorial, click the button below to continue onto the website.

Convert your original sketch onto this online program. Make sure you include any measurements of your objects and the dimensions of the classroom. Make sure you also label all materials you use in your final design. When completed print your design, to be submitted, and save a photo of it to the computer to add to your presentation.

Part Three

This is the main job of the researcher and writer. The cost of all materials must be found. Your strict budget is $40,000. You will be deducted points if you go over the budget. This budget should take in account cost for: drywall, windows, doors, fans, flooring, and other construction materials. Cost for furniture should also be thought about. Every student must have a seat and desk of their own. Websites like ikea.com can be helpful to stay under budget. This cost along with the websites used to find pricing information will also be included in the Google Slides presentation.

Part Four

Create your presentation. Log onto Google Docs create a Slides document. This powerpoint should be atleast five slides long.

Slide One

Title of Project and Group Members Names

Slide Two

A photo of your original blueprint. (You can upload this by taking a photo with a smartphone and emailing it to yourself. If no one in your group has a smartphone, see me.)

Slide Three

A screen shot of your Google Sketch. (If you do not know how to do this, see me.)

Slide Four

Total Cost vs. Budget.

A Reflection on the project should also be included on this slide.

Slide Five

All Sources.

Part Five

Present your Google Slides. You will be presenting to both me and your fellow classmates. The principal will also be asked to sit in on the presentations. Please dress nicely on the presentation day you are assigned. Your grade will be affected by your attire. If you have an issue with this please speak with me privately. Your presentation should be around five minutes long.

Have Fun!!!
